Team Member Profile: Simon Harvey

31 January 2018 Team Member Profile: Simon Harvey

We’d like to introduce you to Simon Harvey, who has been working with us here at ovesco for seven and a half years as a “go to” guy in that he has had a variety of roles such as warehouse operator/ forklift driver/ sales coordinator and purchasing.

Having earned his technical kudos with over 40 years in engineering, he particularly likes the problem-solving aspects of the job and providing suitable solutions for customers.  It helps that he also has an interest in metal work and anything automotive.

When not slaving away at ovesco, he can be found swimming, surfing or reliving his earlier years as a professional musician by playing the bass guitar and tenor saxophone.  He also plays the guitar, mandolin, banjo and is currently teaching himself to play the trumpet.

Digging a little deeper we found that Simon’s stage career started back in 1975 when he was on the school-based quiz show “It’s Academic”, representing Marist College North Sydney. They not only competed but also came third - out of three teams…!

Of course, having studied radio and being a musician makes him a natural on camera, if you look closely you’ll even find him dancing around in the film clip of Dynamic Hepnotics “Soul Kind of Feeling”.

The highlights of his musical career found him playing in the Sydney band “Sur La Plage”, in the 80’s. And enjoying a modicum of success that included a short stint playing bass on Channel 9’s “The Mike Walsh Show”, under maestro Geoff Harvey (who is no relation). That gig gave him a musical education that money couldn’t buy.

To describe Simon; we’d have to say that dedication, perseverance, and a “can do” attitude matched with a flair for looking outside the square makes him a great asset to the team here at ovesco.

And Simon’s motto in life is all too true: “Life is too short to drink bad beer or crook wine…!”
