How to install a hasp and staple or pad bolt

Installing a hasp and staple or padbolt is quick and straightforward, offering reliable security for most doors and panels.

01

Step 1 – Mark hinge and latch positions

Position the hasp plate or pad bolt bracket on the door and mark screw holes. Ensure the staple or bolt keeper aligns with the closing edge of the gate or frame.

02

Step 2 – Pre-drill and fix plates

Drill pilot holes for each fixing point. Use zinc-plated or stainless screws for corrosion protection, or bolts and nuts for heavy-duty steel gates or doors.

03

Step 3 – Attach staple or bolt keeper

Install the staple, keeper, or catch housing on the fixed frame. Check alignment so the hasp lock or pad bolt engages smoothly and securely when closed.

04

Step 4 – Add padlock and test security

Fit a padlock or R pin through the staple loop or padbolt to complete installation. Test for movement and ensure the latch locks tightly for consistent safety and reliability.
